Sail San Francisco! 2005

Sail San Francisco! 2005 Sail San Francisco! 2005 Sail San Francisco! 2005 Sail San Francisco! 2005

If you live in San Francisco, the attractions come to you. This Mexican ship, the Cuauhtemoc, is docked right next to the Bay Bridge, was built in 1982 in Bilbao, Spain. We'll come back later to check out the Pallada, a Russian ship moored next door.

(Huh. I thought these things were restored historic boats. Oh well. Can't beat the price -- $3 bucks includes a "ships passport" that they stamp as you climb aboard.)

Woodcut of gents fighting with a stick.

bOINGbOING has a post on this illustrated article from 1909, showing how to defend and attack with a walking stick or umbrella. If you have read Bruce Lee's books, you will recognize the reference to savate, a French style of kickboxing.

Check it out -- one of savate's official weapons is the chair!
