DMV Uniform.

Brian, Gary and I were paying for sushi at Ino Saturday and noticed that we all wore the same outfit to get our driver's licenses.

DMV Uniform.

By the way, Ino is very, very good. Expect to pay $50 per person (with beer) for omakase (chef's choice). Cozy and authentic.

Free, as in Beer.

Ruthy set up a group tour of the Anchor Steam Brewery in Potrero Hill, and we had a great time checking out the history and production of America's one and only "steam beer." (Apparently that's nothing more than a registered nickname, but it sounds cool.) We then stopped by the company bar for six glasses of fresh amber nectar, including their tasty brandywine -- sort of like a port for beer. Towards the end, we were treating the place like our old haunt, The Pirate. Except the beer was free. And it was still light outside.

Note to self: try Anchor's whiskey, including Old Potrero and their special, limited edition Hotaling. Free, as in Beer. Free, as in Beer. Free, as in Beer.

Teh D0n4ld.

I got a free ticket to the Real Estate Expo last weekend, and went to see Donald Trump speak. He was really funny, but I didn't really learn how to get rich. Then again, I had to leave early.

Teh Donald. Teh Donald.

Urban Racer.

fumes58.jpg

Not everyone knows this, but my brother broke drifting in the U.S. He was the editor of the first magazine devoted entirely to this new motorsport.

What's drifting, you say? It's sort of like surfing, but with your car. The aim is to get your vehicle sliding sideways around a corner, while maintaining some level of control. There's some skill involved, but it's mostly show-boating. Drivers are rated on style, including degree of smokey burnout.

Anyway, last weekend, he was up in New Jersey judging a Formula D (get it? like Formula 1?) event. That's him on the far right. Read the rest (by another journalist, Richard Chang) at UrbanRacer.com.

Ed Hits the Big Time.

My brother, Ed, writes and photographs cars. For almost 3 years, he was over at Import Racer, a small magazine covering the tuner market -- tiny Hondas with big mufflers, scantily-clad race queens, etc. Now he's moved up to the big leagues, to Road & Track's new title, SPEED, which hits the newsstands in a few weeks as a regular bi-monthly. It's also going to cover fast cars, but of the less DIY variety.

On page 12 of this month's issue of "the big book," Road & Track, Ed and the rest of the SPEED staff are featured in a small column. Ed is the Managing Editor of SPEED, and will be working with Sam Mitani, who's been with R&T for over 15 years.

Here's the cover -- I'll take a picture of the inside when I get a chance.
